If you would like to apply for a T.E.A.C.H. DC scholarship, please follow the process below:
Step #1: Get the "OK" from your Sponsoring Center Director
Speak with your Center Director and determine if T.E.A.C.H. is something they are willing to fully invest in. They need to agree to pay 10% of your tuition and books, provide up to 3 hrs/wk of release time to you each semester and award you a 2% raise or a $300 bonus upon completion of each contract. If your sponsor consents, you must agree to complete your classes "successfully" while maintaining your employment and staying at your current place of employment for a "commitment period" at the end your contract. (Disregard if you are a Family Care Provider)
Step #2: Apply to a College or University
In order to apply for a T.E.A.C.H. Scholarship you have to apply to a T.E.A.C.H. partner institution. THIS LIST IS NOT YET AVAILABLE BUT YOU CAN STILL PROCEED WITH YOUR TEACH APPLICATION. Determine which T.E.A.C.H. partner institution you want to attend and complete their application process. After you have applied and been accepted to the T.E.A.C.H. partner institution you will need to attach your T.E.A.C.H. partner institution acceptance letter to your T.E.A.C.H. scholarship application. T.E.A.C.H. does not reimburse for application or admission fees.
Step #3: Apply for Financial Aid
You must complete the FAFSA which can be found at www.fafsa.ed.gov. Attach a copy of your Student Aid Report & Award Letter (verifying completion of your FAFSA application) to your T.E.A.C.H. application. Receiving financial aid does not disqualify you from receiving a scholarship from T.E.A.C.H. Early Childhood® Washington, D.C.
Step #4: Apply to T.E.A.C.H.
Once you have received an acceptance and award letter from a T.E.A.C.H. partner institution, you will need to download a T.E.A.C.H. application at www.teach.nbcdi.org. Determine which T.E.A.C.H. scholarship model is best for you and your sponsoring center, then complete and submit the application with all necessary documents attached.
Step #5: Await Confirmation
It takes approximately 4-6 weeks for us to process your application and make a determination of your eligibility. While you are waiting, you may wish to research the ECE program or look into the courses that interest you. T.E.A.C.H. only approves course work in Early Childhood Education, ECE/Special Education, Child Development, and Human Development. If you need assistance with choosing courses please contact the ECE department's academic advisor.
Step #6: Await Approval
Once all materials have been received, you will get an approval packet from the T.E.A.C.H. scholarship counselor. This approval packet will include details about your scholarship award and provide guidance on what you need to do next.
